Two Hospitalized After Suspected Racing Crash on O St in Lincoln, NE
Lincoln, NE (July 1, 2026) – Two people suffered serious injuries on Tuesday night, June 30, after a suspected racing collision involving three vehicles on O Street and 33rd Street in Lincoln.
Emergency units responded shortly after 10 p.m. after receiving a report of a multi-vehicle wreck.
Police said a Ford F-150 and a Ford Escape were traveling westbound side by side at high speeds before the crash. At the same time, an Acura was turning eastbound onto 33rd Street. The front of the F-150 struck the rear passenger side of the Acura, causing the Acura to spin into the intersection.
According to the
Lincoln Police Department’s report, the F-150’s speedometer was stuck at 87 mph after the crash. The Escape’s speedometer was stuck at 96 mph. Crews closed O Street between 27th and 35th streets while they worked at the scene, and the road later reopened.
The 16-year-old driver of the Escape suffered a broken leg, a broken rib, and a shattered knee. Officials said the teen was later moved to the ICU. The 23-year-old passenger in the Acura suffered a broken leg, ankle, arm, and hip, and later left the hospital against medical advice.
Debris from the crash also damaged two nearby cars and a Jiffy Lube window. Police have not filed citations at this time. Authorities continue to review what led to the O Street crash.
Our thoughts are with both young people hurt in this collision, and we wish them strength as they begin their recovery.
How Street Racing Cases Are Investigated in Lincoln, NE
When drivers race on a public road and someone gets hurt, Lincoln police review more than the crash damage. Investigators may examine speedometer readings, vehicle positions, and witness statements. These details can help show whether racing played a role.
Nebraska treats reckless driving and drag racing as serious traffic offenses. A racing-related charge can lead to license suspension, fines, and other penalties. Insurance companies may also use that evidence when reviewing fault and coverage.
O Street carries steady traffic near the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus and downtown Lincoln. Roads like Cornhusker Highway, Highway 2, and Antelope Valley Parkway also see fast-moving traffic. High-speed multi-vehicle crashes on these routes can leave people with severe injuries.
When more than one driver may share fault, the claim can become harder to sort out. Insurance companies may disagree about each driver’s role. You may still have options even before investigators finish reviewing the crash.
Even without immediate citations, the investigation may continue. Police can still review speed evidence, vehicle damage, and witness accounts before deciding what happens next. Those findings may affect how your injury claim moves forward.
After a serious racing crash, a
car accident lawyer can help you understand how shared fault may affect your claim. An attorney can also request key records before insurers reach final decisions. Early access to that information can make a real difference.
