Three-Vehicle Crash Kills Woman on Cornhusker Rd in Papillion, NE
Papillion, NE (August 15, 2026) – A woman was killed, and two other drivers were injured in a three-vehicle wreck at South 48th Street and Cornhusker Road in Papillion on Friday evening, August 14. The collision occurred shortly after 7:00 p.m.
Investigators said a Chrysler Town and Country was traveling south on South 48th Street when it entered the intersection against a steady red light. The Chrysler struck a westbound Volkswagen Jetta before a westbound Ford F-250 collided with it.
Emergency crews transported the Chrysler driver to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Crews treated the Ford and Volkswagen drivers at the crash site.
Further details about the two injured drivers have not been released.
The
Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office Crash Response Unit continues to investigate the crash.
Our condolences go out to the deceased woman’s family and friends, and we hope the two injured drivers recover fully.
Who Can File a Wrongful Death Claim in Papillion, NE?
In Nebraska, only the deceased person’s personal representative can file a wrongful death claim. The representative files on behalf of the surviving spouse and next of kin who experienced financial and personal losses because of their loved one’s death.
When the deceased person named an executor in a will, that person may serve as the personal representative after receiving court approval. If there is no will, the probate court can appoint someone qualified to manage the estate and claim.
If another driver’s careless or unlawful actions caused the death, the representative may seek compensation from that driver. Depending on the circumstances, a vehicle owner, employer, manufacturer, or other responsible party may also be included in the claim.
After filing the claim, the representative may pursue compensation for funeral costs, burial expenses, lost income, and services the deceased person would have provided. Qualifying relatives may also recover damages for lost companionship, comfort, care, and guidance.
Because every family experiences a different loss, compensation is not necessarily divided equally among surviving relatives. The court may consider each person’s relationship with the deceased and the financial or personal harm that person experienced because of the death.
Before moving forward, the representative should preserve the crash report, photographs, medical bills, funeral expenses, income records, and insurance correspondence. This information may help establish liability and show the full extent of the family’s losses.
Because these claims involve strict procedures, a
wrongful death lawyer can help appoint the proper representative, investigate the collision, and identify available insurance coverage. An attorney can also calculate the family’s losses and file the claim within Nebraska’s two-year deadline.
