Who Pays My Medical Bills After a Hit-and-Run Crash in Omaha, NE?
After a hit-and-run in Omaha, uninsured motorist coverage may help pay bodily injury losses when the other driver cannot be identified. Nebraska auto policies generally include this coverage. Medical payments coverage or health insurance may also help with treatment costs, depending on your policy and plan.
As you continue treatment, attending medical appointments and following your doctor’s recommendations can help document the care you received. Long gaps in treatment may cause an insurer to question whether later medical bills are related to the crash or whether certain treatment was necessary.
Promptly reporting a hit-and-run to police can help protect your insurance claim. This can be especially important when the fleeing vehicle did not make physical contact with your vehicle, since additional reporting requirements may apply when seeking uninsured motorist coverage.
After reporting the crash, information about the fleeing vehicle may help police identify the driver. A vehicle description, direction of travel, witness accounts, and nearby camera footage can help investigators determine who was involved and where the driver went.
If the driver is later identified, you may be able to pursue a claim through that driver’s liability insurance. Nebraska follows an at-fault system, so a driver who causes a crash may be responsible for medical expenses and other losses connected to the collision.
As your claim moves forward, an
Omaha car accident lawyer can review your policy and explain which coverage may apply to your medical bills. An attorney can also communicate with insurers, address disputed payments, and help you understand your other options if police later identify the hit-and-run driver.
