Young Man Struck by Fleeing Driver on N 72nd St in Omaha, NE
Omaha, NE (May 23, 2026) – A man in his 20s or 30s was seriously injured after a hit-and-run crash at 1902 North 72nd Street in Omaha on Saturday, May 23. The accident was reported around 3:04 a.m. near a Burger King.
Emergency units arrived and found the man unresponsive. He was taken to a hospital as a trauma case for further treatment.
Police described the vehicle as a white Chevy Silverado pickup truck, possibly a 2018 model. The driver left before help arrived, and no arrests had been made at this time.
No names were released in the initial report on the wreck. The
Omaha Police Department is working to track down the driver and the vehicle as the investigation continues.
We hope the man receives the care he needs and makes a full recovery.
Can a Pedestrian Recover Compensation After a Hit-and-Run in Omaha, NE?
Yes, a pedestrian may still be able to recover compensation after a hit-and-run, even if the driver is never found. If you carry auto insurance, your uninsured motorist coverage may apply to your injuries. Nebraska law does not require UM coverage, but many policies include it.
After a hit-and-run, filing a police report right away is one of the most helpful steps you can take. Most UM policies require a prompt report as a condition of coverage. Without one, your insurer may try to deny the claim.
If police later identify the driver, you may be able to file a claim against that driver’s insurance. Nebraska’s comparative fault rule may affect how much you can recover. The claim may also depend on the crash report, insurance coverage, and any dispute over fault.
Even when the driver is unknown, an
Omaha personal injury attorney can help you file a UM claim with your own insurer. That process can feel different from a standard claim because you are seeking coverage through your own policy. Legal guidance can help protect you from delays, low offers, or avoidable mistakes.
Nebraska gives you four years from the date of an injury to file a personal injury lawsuit. That may seem like a long window, but evidence fades fast in hit-and-run cases. Starting early helps preserve camera footage and witness memories before they disappear.
