James Harris • October 6, 2026

Omaha, NE (October 6, 2026) – This is an updated version of a previously published article. You can read the original article here.

A 70-year-old man died after being seriously hurt in a crash on Sunday afternoon, October 4, at Ida Street and Irvington Road in Douglas County.

The man was driving a blue Porsche 911 south on Irvington Road when a black GMC Sierra traveling west on Ida Street allegedly ran a red light and struck his vehicle.

Emergency crews took the man to the University of Nebraska Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The pickup truck driver, a 32-year-old man, was identified as the driver involved in the crash and faces charges.

The circumstances remain under investigation.

Our thoughts are with the man's family and loved ones following this tragic loss.

What Legal Options May Be Available After a Fatal Crash in Omaha, NE?

When a person dies after a serious crash, surviving family members may have legal options to address financial losses and other damages. The specific claims available depend on the circumstances, insurance coverage, and evidence surrounding the crash.

First, a potential wrongful death claim may allow eligible family members to seek compensation for certain losses connected to their loved one's death. Funeral and burial expenses, medical costs, lost income, and other financial effects may be relevant.

Evidence from the crash can also become important. Photos, witness statements, traffic-camera footage, vehicle damage, and other records may help establish how the crash occurred and who may be responsible.

Medical records should be preserved as well. Even when a person later dies, hospital records and treatment documentation can help establish the medical care provided between the crash and death.

Insurance coverage is another consideration. Multiple policies may potentially apply, and insurers may request statements or documents while evaluating a claim. Families may benefit from reviewing settlement offers carefully before accepting them.

Financial records can help document the deceased person's contributions to the household. Pay records, tax documents, employment information, and other financial records may help establish losses related to income or support.

Because a fatal crash can involve disputed facts and significant financial consequences, speaking with a lawyer may help a family understand its options. A wrongful death attorney can review the available evidence, insurance information, and applicable claims without promising a particular outcome.

At Harris & Associates, we help Nebraska families address legal questions after fatal traffic crashes. Our team explains the claims process and provides guidance based on each family’s circumstances.

A fatal crash in Omaha can leave a family facing insurance calls and unexpected expenses while they are still coping with the loss of a loved one. You can call Harris & Associates at (402) 397-1202 to discuss your family’s situation and learn what steps to take next.

Omaha, NE (October 6, 2026) – A crash involving a car and a motorcycle was reported Tuesday evening, October 6, at Paul Street and North 20th Street in Omaha. The collision reportedly blocked Route 18 in both directions. Emergency crews responded to the scene to assist those involved. The extent of any reported injuries has not been released. The crash is still being investigated. We hope everyone involved in the wreck recovers fully and quickly. What Should You Do After a Motorcycle Crash in Omaha, NE? After a motorcycle crash, getting medical attention should come first. Some injuries may not be immediately obvious, so following medical recommendations and keeping records of treatment can help document the effects of the crash and the care required during recovery. Once immediate medical needs are addressed, preserving information about what happened can help document the circumstances of the crash. Photos of the motorcycle, other vehicle, roadway, traffic signals, debris, and visible damage may provide useful evidence before the scene changes or damaged vehicles are moved. In addition to photographs, witness information can provide another source of evidence. Names and contact details for people who saw the crash may help establish how the vehicles were traveling and what happened before the collision, particularly if questions later arise about responsibility. As treatment continues, medical records should be kept organized with other important documentation. Hospital records, bills, prescriptions, follow-up appointments, and related records can help establish the nature of the injuries, the treatment received, and the expenses that followed. Along with medical documentation, the motorcycle and other damaged property should also be preserved and documented. Repair estimates, photographs, towing bills, and records showing the extent of the damage may help support a claim for property losses and provide a record of the financial impact. As these losses are documented, insurance companies may request statements and other information while reviewing a claim. Before accepting a settlement, it can be helpful to understand whether the proposed payment accounts for medical expenses, property damage, lost income, and other losses resulting from the crash. Beyond these expenses, a motorcycle crash may also affect a person's ability to work. If injuries prevent someone from working, pay records and employer documentation may help establish lost wages. Keeping these records together can make it easier to evaluate the financial effects of the crash. With the available information organized, legal guidance may be useful when questions arise about fault, insurance coverage, injuries, or potential compensation. Harris & Associates can review a motorcycle crash in Omaha, explain the circumstances that may affect a claim, and discuss what legal options may be available. To learn more about your legal options after a motorcycle crash in Omaha, you can reach Harris & Associates at (402) 397-1202 to discuss your situation and the options that may be available with our motorcycle accident lawyer . Elmwood, NE (October 6, 2026) – A man in his 20s was seriously hurt on Tuesday, October 6, after his right hand was crushed between a forklift and a trailer near 286th Street and Church Road in Elmwood. The man was conscious, alert, and oriented after the injury. A makeshift tourniquet was applied to his right arm before he was taken for further medical treatment. Emergency units initially headed toward one hospital before being diverted to another facility in Lincoln. The available information does not state the extent of the man's injuries beyond the reported crush injury to his right arm. The circumstances leading to the accident remain under investigation. We hope the injured man makes a full recovery. What Should You Do After a Workplace Injury in Elmwood, NE? After a workplace injury, getting medical attention should be the first priority. Even when treatment begins quickly, keeping records of appointments, diagnoses, medications, and follow-up recommendations can help document what happened, the care received, and any restrictions that may affect your ability to work. Once immediate medical needs have been addressed, report the injury to your employer as soon as possible. Providing a clear account of when and where the injury happened can create an important record of what occurred. Workers should also keep copies of any written reports, forms, emails, or other communications related to the injury. In addition to reporting the injury, it can be helpful to document the workplace conditions involved. Photos of the equipment, work area, damaged items, or other relevant details may preserve information that could later become difficult to obtain, particularly if the conditions change after the injury. Along with photographs, witness information may provide another useful source of evidence. Coworkers who saw what happened or were aware of the conditions beforehand may be able to provide accounts that help clarify the circumstances and support a clearer understanding of what occurred. As treatment continues, medical records should be kept together with the other documentation. Bills, treatment notes, prescriptions, work restrictions, and follow-up records can help show the extent of medical care, the expenses involved, and how the injury may affect your recovery. Beyond medical treatment, a workplace injury can also affect your ability to earn income. If the injury prevents someone from working, records of missed hours and lost wages may become important. Pay statements, schedules, employer communications, and other documents can help show how the injury affected employment. With medical, employment, and workplace records organized, workers' compensation may provide benefits for qualifying workplace injuries. However, questions can arise about medical treatment, wage benefits, claim requirements, or whether a claim is being properly handled. Legal guidance can help explain the options available under the circumstances. If you have been injured at work in Nebraska, we can guide you through the legal process. At Harris & Associates, we can help you understand what options might be available under state law based on the details of your workplace injury and explain the steps that may follow. To learn more, call Harris & Associates at (402) 397-1202 to discuss your situation. Our workers' compensation lawyers are ready to help you walk through this process. Omaha, NE (October 5, 2026) – A major two-vehicle crash involving a car and a truck was reported Saturday evening, October 3, at the intersection of 30th Street and Meredith Avenue in Omaha. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage, with debris scattered across the roadway. The car reportedly spun completely around during the collision. Emergency crews responded to the scene and assisted those involved while working around the damaged vehicles. The extent of any reported injuries has not been released. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation. We wish everyone injured in the wreck a smooth and complete recovery. What Should You Do After a Car Crash in Omaha, NE? After a car crash, getting medical attention should come first. Even when injuries are not immediately obvious, medical records can help document symptoms, treatment, and any follow-up care that becomes necessary. Once immediate medical needs have been addressed, gather information about what happened if it is safe to do so. Photos of the vehicles, roadway, debris, traffic signals, and surrounding conditions may help preserve evidence before the roadway is cleared or damaged vehicles are moved. In addition to photographs, witness information can also be valuable. Names and contact details for people who saw the crash may help clarify how the vehicles were moving and what happened immediately beforehand, particularly if accounts later differ. Along with documenting the scene, it is also helpful to keep records of vehicle damage. Photographs, repair estimates, towing bills, and other documents may help establish the financial effects of the crash and support related insurance claims. As treatment continues, medical expenses should be organized as well. Hospital records, bills, prescriptions, and other related documents can help show the costs connected to any injuries and provide a record of the care received. Beyond medical expenses, the crash may also affect someone's ability to work. If injuries cause someone to miss work, records of lost wages may become relevant. Pay statements, work schedules, and employer communications can help document time away from employment and resulting financial losses. As these expenses and losses are documented, insurance companies may request statements, records, or other information after a crash. Before accepting a settlement, injured people may want to understand what expenses and losses the payment is intended to cover. With the available information organized, legal guidance may be useful when questions arise about fault, injuries, insurance coverage, or financial losses. If you have been injured in a crash in Omaha, our team at Harris & Associates is open to help. We can go over the details of your case and guide you through your next steps. Springfield, NE (October 5, 2026) – A young girl was hurt early Sunday morning, October 4, after an e-bike and a vehicle were involved in a crash near a business on the northwest side of Platteview Road in Springfield. Emergency units found the girl on the ground with back pain. Her father was present at the time. The available information does not state whether she was taken to a hospital or provide further details about her condition. The circumstances remain under investigation. We hope the girl makes a full and quick recovery. Legal Rights After an E-Bike Crash Involving a Child in Springfield, NE A child hurt in an e-bike crash may have legal rights related to medical expenses, treatment, and other losses. The available options can depend on how the crash happened, who was involved, and what evidence can establish responsibility. A parent or legal guardian may want to understand these rights before making decisions about a potential claim and while considering the child’s ongoing needs. One of the first steps is documenting the child’s injuries and treatment. Medical records can be important when establishing the care required after the crash. Hospital records, medical bills, prescriptions, follow-up appointments, and other related documents can help show the extent of the injuries and associated expenses. Keeping these records organized may also make it easier to track costs as treatment continues. Along with medical documentation, information about the vehicles may also become relevant. Photographs of the roadway, bicycle, vehicle damage, and surrounding area can help preserve details that may change after the crash. Witness contact information and any available video footage may provide additional information about how the collision occurred and who may have been involved. As the circumstances of the crash are reviewed, insurance coverage can raise additional questions. Depending on the circumstances, a bicycle accident lawyer in Nebraska can review applicable policies and explain what coverage may be available. Keeping copies of insurance communications, claim documents, and other correspondence can help preserve a clear record of the process and any issues that arise. At Harris & Associates, we can review the circumstances of an e-bike crash, explain the legal rights that may apply, and discuss potential options based on the available information. If your child was hurt in a similar crash, contact Harris & Associates at (402) 397-1202 to discuss your circumstances and learn more about your legal options. Omaha, NE (October 5, 2026) – Two people were transported to Nebraska Medicine Sunday morning, October 4, following a house fire near 96th Street and Redman Avenue in Omaha. A dog was also rescued from the home. Emergency crews responded to the property and worked to contain the fire. The extent of the two individuals’ injuries has not been released. The circumstances surrounding the fire remain under investigation. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the fire, and we hope those injured make a full recovery. What Legal Rights May Apply After a House Fire in Omaha, NE? People affected by a house fire in Omaha may have legal rights related to medical expenses, property losses, insurance coverage, or other damages. The specific options available can depend on how the fire started, the type of losses involved, and whether another party may have legal responsibility. Understanding these factors can help determine what information should be preserved and what steps may be appropriate. For those who required hospital treatment, medical expenses may become an immediate concern. Medical records, bills, treatment documents, and related receipts can help document the costs connected to the fire. Keeping these records together may provide useful information when evaluating potential claims or discussing who may be responsible for the resulting expenses. In addition to medical costs, homeowners and other occupants may have rights under applicable insurance policies. Policy documents, claim forms, correspondence with insurers, and estimates for repairs or replacement should be preserved throughout the claims process. Legal guidance may also help someone understand coverage provisions and address questions or disagreements that arise with an insurance company. Beyond insurance coverage, a fire may raise questions about whether a property owner, manufacturer, contractor, landlord, or another party could bear responsibility. Reviewing the available evidence may help clarify what happened and whether a legal claim may be appropriate. Photographs, witness information, maintenance records, inspection reports, and other documentation can provide useful information during that review. At Harris & Associates, we help injured people deal with legal questions after Nebraska fire accidents. Our team listens carefully, reviews the facts, and gives clear guidance based on each person’s situation. If you have questions about your legal rights after a house fire in Omaha, call Harris & Associates at (402) 397-1202 to discuss your circumstances with our burn injury lawyer and learn more about your options. Lincoln, NE (October 4, 2026) – A 43-year-old woman was killed, and a 16-year-old driver was injured in a two-vehicle wreck at South 82nd Street and Roca Road south of Lincoln on Sunday, October 4. The collision happened at about 11:55 a.m. According to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office , the teen was driving a Nissan Rogue south on South 82nd Street when it collided with an eastbound Kia Soul driven by the woman. She was pronounced dead at the crash site. The teen was taken to Bryan West Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Deputies and first responders closed the intersection and asked drivers to use alternate routes while crews worked. The investigation into the cause of the wreck remains ongoing. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the woman who lost her life. We also wish the injured teen a steady recovery. How Long Do Families Have to File a Wrongful Death Lawsuit in Lincoln, NE? In Lincoln and throughout Nebraska, families generally have two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death lawsuit. Missing this deadline may prevent the family from pursuing the claim in court. In some cases, a claim against a city, county, or other political subdivision may require a written claim within one year. This notice requirement may apply before a case can proceed against the government entity. Before a lawsuit can move forward, the personal representative of the estate files the wrongful death claim on behalf of the surviving spouse and next of kin. Family members generally do not bring separate wrongful death claims themselves. Depending on the family’s losses, compensation may include lost financial support and loss of society, comfort, and companionship. Apart from the family’s claim, Nebraska may allow a separate survival claim for losses the person experienced before death. These may include medical expenses, lost earnings before death, and conscious pain and suffering. Once the case is resolved, the wrongful death recovery is divided among eligible family members according to the financial loss each person sustained. The court determines how the recovery should be distributed. During the claims process, a wrongful death lawyer can prepare and file the necessary documents, communicate with insurers, and keep track of important deadlines for your family. Our team at Harris & Associates helps families across Nebraska after fatal crashes. We review each case carefully, explain the available options, and keep families informed as their claims move forward. If you lost a loved one in a fatal crash in Lincoln, you can contact Harris & Associates at (402) 397-1202. We can review what happened and explain the legal options available to your family. Omaha, NE (October 4, 2026) – One person was injured after a two-vehicle wreck at Ida Street and Irvington Road in Omaha on Sunday, October 4. The collision was reported at about 4 p.m. According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office , a truck was traveling west on Ida Street when it ran a red light and struck a car traveling south on Irvington Road. One person was taken to a hospital for treatment. The investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing. We hope the injured person receives the care they need to make a full recovery. Can a Red-Light Violation Help Prove Fault After a Crash in Omaha, NE? Yes, a red-light violation can help prove fault after a crash in Omaha because running a red light breaks traffic law and can be strong evidence that the driver caused the collision when the facts support that conclusion. To show who had the red light, traffic cameras, nearby security footage, witness accounts, and signal timing records may help show how the crash happened and which driver had the right of way. While the claim moves forward, medical payments coverage, PIP benefits available under an applicable policy, or health insurance may help cover treatment costs. These sources can help pay medical expenses before the injury claim is resolved during ongoing treatment. Beyond medical bills, you may be able to recover lost income, reduced earning capacity, and compensation for pain and suffering from the driver who ran the red light. The amount available will depend on the losses caused by the crash. Even when another driver ran the red light, your own actions may still be considered under Nebraska’s comparative fault rule. Sharing some responsibility can reduce your compensation, while being equally or more at fault can prevent you from recovering compensation. Under Nebraska law, most personal injury claims based on negligence generally must be filed within four years. Missing the applicable deadline can prevent an injured person from pursuing compensation through a lawsuit, so filing on time matters. If an insurer disputes fault, an Omaha truck accident lawyer can gather camera footage and witness accounts to show the other driver ran the red light. An attorney can handle settlement talks and review any offer before you accept it. At Harris & Associates, we help people hurt in crashes in Omaha and across Nebraska. We take the time to learn what happened, answer your questions, and explain how fault may affect your claim. If you were hurt in a red-light crash in Omaha, call Harris & Associates at (402) 397-1202. We can talk through what happened and explain the options available to you. Lincoln, NE (October 4, 2026) – A vehicle struck a pedestrian at North 9th Street and Q Street in Lincoln on Saturday, October 3. The collision was reported at about 7:55 p.m. Emergency units were dispatched to assist. A woman had leg and knee pain after the crash. Local authorities are investigating what led to the collision. Our thoughts are with the woman, and we hope she recovers fully and quickly. What Should I Do After a Pedestrian Accident in Lincoln, NE? After a pedestrian accident in Lincoln, get medical care, call police, and obtain the driver’s name, contact information, license number, and insurance details if possible. These steps can protect your health and create a clear record of what happened. To document what happened, you should collect police reports, crosswalk signal records, nearby camera footage, and witness accounts. These details can help show how the collision occurred, where the pedestrian and vehicle were before the crash, and what happened just before the collision. Because payment may take time, the at-fault driver’s liability insurance may cover treatment costs, while medical payments coverage under your own auto policy or health insurance may help cover expenses in the meantime, depending on the available coverage. If the driver has no insurance, uninsured motorist coverage under your own auto policy may still apply even though you were on foot. The available benefits will depend on the policy terms and whether you qualify for coverage. Once your losses become clearer, compensation may include medical costs, lost income, reduced earning ability, and pain and suffering. The amount available depends on the harm caused by the crash and how those losses affect your daily life. Even if you share some responsibility, Nebraska law may still allow you to recover compensation. Your award is reduced by your percentage of fault, but you cannot recover compensation if your share of fault is equal to or greater than the combined fault of the other parties. When fault or insurance coverage is disputed, a pedestrian accident lawyer can review the circumstances and communicate with the insurers on your behalf. An attorney can also explain which sources of compensation may apply to your case. At Harris & Associates, we help pedestrians injured in Lincoln and across Nebraska understand their legal and insurance options. We take time to understand what happened, answer your questions, and keep you informed as your claim moves forward. After a pedestrian accident in Lincoln, medical bills, missed work, and insurance questions can quickly become hard to manage. Call Harris & Associates at (402) 397-1202 to discuss your situation and learn what steps you should take next. Omaha, NE (October 3, 2026) – A pedestrian was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle near 132nd and Blondo Streets in Omaha on Friday, October 2. The collision was reported at about 9:00 a.m. The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Local authorities are investigating what led to the crash. We hope the injured pedestrian makes a full recovery. What Injuries Are Common in Pedestrian Accidents in Omaha, NE? Pedestrian accidents in Omaha can cause head injuries, broken bones, leg and hip injuries, and back injuries. With little protection from a moving vehicle, someone on foot may sustain several injuries that require medical care. After treatment begins, medical records can help show how the crash affected you. Doctor’s notes, bills, test results, and photos of visible injuries can connect your condition to the collision and document the care you received during recovery. When medical bills begin to arrive, the responsible driver’s insurance may cover losses caused by the crash. Medical payments coverage or health insurance may also help with treatment costs while liability is being resolved. Beyond medical bills, a pedestrian injury claim may include lost income, reduced earning ability, and pain and suffering. The amount available depends on how the injuries affected your work, daily activities, recovery, and long-term limitations. If the driver has no insurance, your own uninsured motorist coverage may still apply even though you were walking. Coverage depends on the terms of your policy and whether you qualify as an insured, including through a household policy. In Nebraska, an injured person generally has four years from the crash date to file a personal injury lawsuit. Missing the applicable deadline can prevent you from pursuing compensation through the court. If your injuries require ongoing medical care or keep you from working, an Omaha pedestrian accident lawyer can evaluate your losses and review your available insurance coverage. An attorney can also communicate with insurers while you focus on your recovery. At Harris & Associates, we help people injured in pedestrian accidents in Omaha and across Nebraska. We review the circumstances, explain the legal issues that may apply, and guide you through the claims process. A pedestrian crash in Omaha can leave you managing medical care, missed work, and insurance questions at the same time. Omaha, NE (October 3, 2026) – A two-vehicle wreck on Dodge Street in Omaha left one person injured on Saturday, October 3. The collision happened at about 4:00 a.m. Emergency crews responded to the crash. Initial reports indicated that a 25-year-old man was awake and breathing after the collision. He reported pain in his neck, left wrist, and knee. The injured man was taken to a medical center for treatment. Local authorities are investigating what caused the crash. Our thoughts are with the injured person, and we hope they make a full recovery. How Is Fault Determined After a Multi-Vehicle Crash in Omaha, NE? Fault after a multi-vehicle crash in Omaha is determined by which driver or drivers failed to drive safely. More than one driver may share responsibility, and each one then carries a percentage of the fault. When several vehicles collide, police reports, photos, witness accounts, and video help piece together the order of impacts. These details can show which vehicle struck first, where each one was hit, and how each driver was moving. Because Nebraska is an at-fault state, each responsible driver’s insurer may be required to pay its share of your medical bills. Since resolving the claim can take time, medical payments coverage or health insurance may help cover treatment in the meantime. Beyond medical bills, you may recover compensation from the at-fault driver for other losses caused by the crash. This may include lost income, vehicle damage, and pain and suffering. The amount depends on the extent of your losses and how your injuries have affected your daily life. If you share some of the blame, your recovery drops by your percentage of fault. Being equally or more at fault than the other drivers combined stops you from recovering anything from them. Nebraska calls this rule comparative negligence. Once the crash happens, the clock starts on your right to sue. Nebraska generally allows four years from the crash date to file a personal injury lawsuit. A court will usually dismiss a case filed after that deadline. When drivers give different accounts of a crash, an Omaha car accident lawyer can compare those statements with the available evidence and help determine how responsibility may be divided. An attorney can also deal with insurer disputes that follow. Our team at Harris & Associates helps injured people across Omaha and the rest of Nebraska after serious motor vehicle accidents.
