Trench Collapse Traps Worker Near Linwood Ln in Lincoln, NE
Lincoln, NE (June 30, 2026) – A 37-year-old worker was rescued on Tuesday morning, June 30, after a trench collapsed at a construction site in east Lincoln.
Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews responded to a neighborhood near Linwood Lane and Northern Sky Road at about 10:30 a.m. Early reports said the man became trapped while working near a home foundation. Officials said he was buried up to his neck when crews arrived.
Rescue crews worked carefully to remove dirt from around the worker and keep his airway clear. By 11:35 a.m., the man was conscious and freed to his waist, with IVs in place as crews continued the rescue. A vacuum truck also arrived to help remove dirt from the trench.
Officials said the hole was about 15 feet deep. Crews moved slowly because the site had loose dirt, and there were concerns about another collapse. Lincoln Fire and Rescue said the trench appeared to be inside another trench, which made the rescue more difficult.
At 11:59 a.m., crews removed the worker from the trench. Battalion Chief Bob Watton said coworkers were trying to help free the man before firefighters arrived. Lincoln Fire and Rescue had three fire trucks, a trench rescue trailer, a vacuum truck, and several rescue units at the scene.
Temperatures were around 90 degrees during the rescue, creating added concern for the trapped worker and the crews working at the site. Lincoln Fire and Rescue Public Information Officer MJ Lierman described the outcome as the best-case scenario.
Officials did not immediately release more details about the worker’s condition after he was removed from the trench. The cause of the trench collapse remains under investigation.
We hope the worker receives the care he needs and continues to recover safely.
What Should Workers Know After a Construction Accident in Lincoln, NE?
Workers should know that a construction accident in Lincoln, NE, may lead to workers’ compensation, a third-party claim, or both. These options may help cover medical bills, missed wages, future treatment, and other worksite losses.
After the collapse, strong records can help explain what happened. Photos, witness names, medical notes, and site reports may all matter. These details can show whether trench support, soil movement, or equipment played a part.
When a worker gets treatment, medical records can connect the injury to the job site. That connection matters because pain can worsen after the first few hours. Follow-up visits may also show work limits or future care needs.
If several companies were present, more than one party may need review. A contractor, subcontractor, property owner, or equipment provider may have separate duties. Workers’ compensation may apply, but another claim may also be possible.
Lincoln construction work often takes place near neighborhoods, business corridors, O Street, Cornhusker Highway, Superior Street, and Interstate 80. Foundation and utility projects can involve deep digging. Clear site records matter after a trench failure.
In most cases, compensation depends on medical needs, lost income, and the facts behind the collapse. A claim may also include future treatment or work limits. Workers should not have to guess how those pieces fit together.
From there, a
personal injury attorney can review the records and explain which options may apply. A lawyer can also check whether someone outside the employer may share responsibility. Early guidance can help prevent rushed claim decisions.
