What Damages Can Families Recover After a Fatal Crash in Lincoln, NE?
After a fatal crash in Lincoln, families may recover compensation for medical bills, funeral and burial costs, lost income, and the loss of care and support their loved one provided. This compensation can help families manage the financial challenges that follow an unexpected death.
When determining the value of a claim, several parts of the person’s life may be considered. Their age, health, income, employment benefits, household responsibilities, and relationship with surviving family members can all affect the amount sought.
Under Nebraska law, the deceased person’s personal representative must file the wrongful death claim for the surviving spouse and next of kin. In most cases, the claim must be filed within two years of the person’s death.
If your loved one received medical care before passing away, the cost of that treatment may also be recoverable. A claim may include hospital bills, emergency care expenses, and other costs directly related to the injuries from the crash.
After a fatal collision, keep funeral invoices, medical bills, income records, insurance letters, and information provided by investigators. These records can help show the financial effect of the loss and support the damages requested in the claim.
Because this crash involved two motorcycles, a
wrongful death lawyer can review how the collision occurred and determine whether another party may be responsible. An attorney can also handle insurance discussions and protect your family’s right to seek compensation.
