Five Hurt, Including Child, in Crash on N 48th St in Lincoln, NE
Lincoln, NE (June 19, 2026) – Five people, including a 9-year-old boy, were hurt Friday afternoon, June 19, after a two-vehicle wreck at North 48th Street and Vine Street that also struck a light pole.
Lincoln Police and emergency units responded to the scene around 12:20 p.m. Police on the scene said no one was trapped inside either vehicle.
A 22-year-old man was taken to St. Elizabeth's hospital with neck and back pain and a possible broken thumb after the front of his vehicle sustained moderate damage. He was restrained at the time, and his airbags deployed. He reported no loss of consciousness.
A 9-year-old boy who was restrained in the back middle seat between two car seats was taken to Bryan West with head pain after his vehicle was struck on the driver's side in a T-bone-style crash at roughly 40 mph. He said he hit his head but denied losing consciousness, and his airbags also deployed.
Three other people involved were treated at the scene with less serious injuries, and no one required extrication.
No further details about what led up to the crash have been released. The investigation is active.
We hope everyone involved, especially the young boy, has a smooth and full recovery.
What Happens in a T-Bone Crash Involving a Child Passenger in Lincoln, NE?
T-bone crashes, where one vehicle strikes the side of another, frequently result in more serious injuries for passengers seated closest to the point of impact, since there's less structure between them and the other vehicle compared to a front or rear collision. This is especially true for children, who may be more vulnerable to head and neck injuries even when properly restrained in a car seat or booster.
People involved in this type of crash often experience injuries ranging from neck and back pain to head trauma, broken bones, and internal injuries, depending on the speed and angle of impact. Even when a child seems alert and responsive at the scene, head injuries can sometimes take time to fully reveal their severity, which is why continued monitoring and follow-up care matter.
Determining fault in a T-bone crash often involves looking closely at traffic signals, right of way, and the speed and positioning of both vehicles leading up to impact. A car accident lawyer can help a family gather evidence such as the police report, witness statements, and any available traffic camera footage to help determine what happened and who may be responsible.
