Dog Bites Toddler at 169th St & Redman Ave in Omaha, NE
Omaha, NE (August 26, 2026) – A toddler was injured in a dog bite at 169th Street and Redman Avenue in Omaha on Tuesday, August 25. The bite was reported at about 8:28 p.m.
Initial reports indicated that a Great Pyrenees bit the child. The child had a two-inch laceration on the head, a puncture wound to the left cheek, and swelling near the left eye.
Emergency units arrived shortly afterward and evaluated the child. The child was alert and acting normally after the bite.
Authorities continue to examine what led to the dog bite.
We hope the child makes a full and speedy recovery.
What Should I Do If My Child Was Bitten by a Dog in Omaha, NE?
If your child was bitten by a dog in Omaha, you should seek medical care right away and follow the provider’s instructions. Prompt treatment can address the injury, check for infection, and document the care your child receives.
After the first appointment, watch for new redness, fever, drainage, worsening swelling, pain, or changes in behavior. Contact your child’s medical provider promptly if you notice any of these signs, and attend recommended follow-up care.
Before you speak with an insurer, save photographs of the injuries, medical records, bills, and messages about the dog or its owner. Write down what happened while the details are fresh, including who was present.
If you do not know whether the dog has current vaccinations, ask the medical provider or local health department what follow-up care may be needed. Do not wait for answers from the owner before seeking care.
Under Nebraska law, a dog owner may be responsible for injuries their dog causes to someone who was not trespassing. Do not accept payment or sign paperwork until you understand your child’s medical needs and available options.
Because a young child may need care after the first visit, keep every bill and explanation of benefits. These records can help track treatment costs, unpaid balances, and insurance payments connected to the bite.
If questions about insurance or payment arise, a
personal injury lawyer can review the information and deal with the insurance company. An attorney can also help address medical bills that may continue during your child’s recovery.
