1 Killed, 3 Hurt in Multi-Vehicle Crash Near W Center Rd in Omaha
Omaha, NE (June 18, 2026) – A multi-vehicle wreck on Wednesday morning, June 17, killed one person and left three others injured near 81st Street and West Center Road in Omaha.
Emergency units arrived around 11:00 a.m. after several vehicles crashed near the intersection. One person was taken to a local hospital with CPR in progress.
Investigators said 69-year-old Rick Hurner was driving a Toyota west on West Center Road when his vehicle crossed the median and entered the eastbound lanes. The Toyota then hit two other vehicles.
A second person was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died. Two other people suffered serious injuries in the crash.
Officials have not confirmed why Hurner crossed into oncoming traffic. Additional details about the people involved had not been released as of Thursday.
The
Omaha Police Department continues to review the cause of the collision.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the person who died and hope those hurt recover fully.
How a Wrongful Death Claim Works in Omaha, NE
A wrongful death claim after an Omaha crash starts when the estate reviews whether another driver caused the death. The claim may seek funeral costs, final medical bills, lost support, and other losses. It can also help families understand their legal options.
After a sudden loss, families often need clear answers before making decisions. The first step usually involves reviewing the police report, medical records, insurance details, and witness statements. Those records can help show what happened and who may be responsible.
In Omaha, serious crashes on West Center Road, Dodge Street, Interstate 80, and 72nd Street may involve several drivers and conflicting accounts. Early evidence review can be important. Clear records help separate facts from assumptions.
If a driver crosses a median, investigators may review vehicle paths, impact points, skid marks, traffic cameras, and witness statements. These details can show whether the driver lost control or moved unsafely. They may also explain how the crash became fatal.
For many families, handling legal questions while grieving can feel overwhelming. A wrongful death claim cannot undo the loss, but it can identify responsibility and available recovery. It can also give families a clearer path forward.
An
Omaha wrongful death attorney can review the facts, handle insurance questions, and explain the next steps. Legal help can also ease pressure on the family. That support lets relatives focus on practical decisions.
